About the Exhortation and the Movements of the Family Apostolate of the School

The Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) by Pope Francis, was recently released. It is based on the fruit of the Synods held in Rome on Family. This exhortation diagnoses the reality families face and their current main challenges. Just to mention a few: increasing individualism, work-family balance, loneliness within the family, lack of commitment in marriage, weak emotional bonds, the loss of shared leisure.

I would like to highlight chapter four of the Exhortation for its detailed analysis of St. Paul's Letter to the Corinthians, chapter thirteen, where the qualities of Love are listed: it is patient, kind, it does not envy, it is free from inner violence. The simple and deep spiritual notes allow the reader - especially married couples and families - a deeper analysis into the challenges of love.

It is very persuasive in its invitation to parents to remain in their rightful place, taking responsibility for the education of their children, especially in the creation of an ethical conscience and in the transmission of faith.  Finally, I would like to emphasise how the Church is understood as merciful, supporting and reaching out to families during hard times or when they have experienced the suffering of separation or widowhood.

Our School joins Pope Francis in his invitation to strengthen families by facilitating the creation of meeting spaces for reflexion. It is in this spirit that we would like to invite you to participate of our movements - Cana and Betania - which try to capture the merciful face of the Father and the beauty of love.

Movement Cana intends to strengthen marriage and family.  At present, there are 26 groups guided by coordinating married couples - parents of students from our School - who suggest topics for discussion and promote group reflexion. In their monthly meetings the groups deal with diverse topics, each benefiting from diverse point of views and enlightened by the Word of God or by some inspirational text from the Magisterium of the Church.

Betania supports the reality of single parent families and promotes a space of fraternal sharing, trying to heal each personal reality, under the light of the Word of God or some other pertinent evocative text.  These meetings take place with the support of parents from the School and the close presence of one of the priests.
