GOLDEN RULES FOR PREPARING VIANDAS

Some tips to keep in mind when
to prepare the children's food.

In-person classes are back, and so are the lunch boxes, which confront us daily with the uncertainty of what to prepare, taking into account routines, tastes and practicality.

I share with you some tips to keep in mind when preparing food for the kids:

  • Involve the kids with their lunches, so that what they bring is not a surprise.
  • Send foods that they will accept at home. Don't expect them to start eating things at school that they don't eat at home. This will only lead to further rejection.
  • Send the amount that your child usually eats, do not fill the lunch box to the size he has, he will feel frustrated when he sees all that food.
  • When designing the menu, take into account foods that can be heated in the microwave, not placing raw salad in the same container, for example.
  • It is very important to divide the food into portions; if it is too large, they tend to grab the food with their hands, which does not contribute to the good habits we are trying to teach.
  • It is very important at this time when we are preparing food in the classroom that everyone brings a tablecloth, cutlery, thermos or bottle.
  • Snacks and fruit should be of an appropriate size; it is preferable to send the fruit already cut into pieces, with a little orange juice to prevent oxidation and thus ensure that they eat 100%.
  • Ultra-processed foods contain many preservatives, so we leave them as the last option on the list of preparations to send.
