5th SMUN Conference

The 5th annual Seminario Model United Nations conference was a resounding success

The fifth edition of the Model United Nations conference, organised by the MUN team of teachers and the Head of the Department of Social Sciences, Prof. Silvana Harriett, was held on Saturday 29th July. This year, the activity’s slogan was "Peace-building policies for an integrated world" and was attended by teachers and students from Colegio Jesús María, Colegio Richard Anderson, Colegio St. Brendan’s, Colegio Stella Maris, Instituto Crandon, Instituto PREU, International College, St. Patrick's College, The British Schools and Uruguayan American School.

SMUNIn this conference, the members of the executive committee in charge of the organization and preparation of the activity were a team of students from Fifth and Sixth Year of Secondary School: Santiago Nazur (President of the General Assembly), Gustavo Marangoni (Secretary General), Sofía Montero (Head of Communications), Lucas Burwood (Head of Media Team), Lucía Durán (Head of Administrative Staff) and María Naor (Deputy Head of Administrative Staff). We would like to congratulate all of them for their excellent work.

The Headmaster, Fr. Fabián Antúnez SJ, inaugurated the order of speakers at the conference opening ceremony. Nicolás Dorronsoro, a professor at the Catholic University of Uruguay who contributed on current problems and the reality of migrants in other contexts also took the floor, reviewing part of his experience as a Fe y Alegría volunteer and his work with Jesuit Refugee Service and Jesuit Migrant Service.

We thank all those who participated and collaborated with the activity making it an enriching experience.

La 5ª conferencia anual de Seminario Model United Nations fue un rotundo éxito

El pasado sábado 29 de julio se celebró la quinta edición de la conferencia de Model United Nations organizada por el equipo de docentes de MUN y la Jefa del Departamento de Ciencias Sociales, Profa. Silvana Harriett. Este año, el lema de la actividad fue “Peace-building policies for an integrated world” y contó con la presencia de docentes y alumnos de las instituciones Colegio Jesús María, Colegio Richard Anderson, Colegio St. Brendan´s, Colegio Stella Maris, Instituto Crandon, Instituto PREU, International College, St. Patrick's College, The British Schools y Uruguayan American School.

En esta conferencia, el comité ejecutivo a cargo de la organización y preparación estuvo conformado por un equipo de estudiantes de Quinto y Sexto año de Secundaria: Santiago Nazur (President of the General Assembly), Gustavo Marangoni (Secretary General), Sofía Montero (Head of Communications), Lucas Burwoord (Head of Media Team), Lucía Durán (Head of Administrative Staff) y María Naor (Deputy Head of Administrative Staff). A todos ellos van nuestras felicitaciones por el excelente trabajo realizado.

El Rector, P. Fabián Antúnez S.J. inauguró el orden de oradores en la ceremonia de apertura de la conferencia. También hizo uso de la palabra el Magister Nicolás Dorronsoro, docente de la Universidad Católica del Uruguay, quien aportó acerca de los problemas de la actualidad y la realidad de los migrantes en otros contextos, recorriendo parte de su experiencia como voluntario de Fe y Alegría y su trabajo con la organización Jesuit Refugee Service y Jesuit Migrant Service.

Agradecemos a todos aquellos que participaron y colaboraron con la actividad haciendo de ella una experiencia enriquecedora.
